A Fulton Market loft, warmed and made personal.
Some spaces arrive with character already in them. This 2,800 square foot loft had the kind you cannot manufacture: exposed brick, concrete ceilings, oversized windows, the raw bones of a real industrial building. For a couple with grown children, it was meant to be a second home in the city, a place to entertain, host family, and live a little differently than they do everywhere else.
So the work was never about covering up what the building already was. It was about warming it. We leaned into the brick and concrete while softening the edges around them, adding mood, texture, and a layer of comfort the raw space didn't have on its own.
Function came next, woven in where it wouldn't interrupt the loft's openness. The primary bathroom stretched into an oversized closet. Underused corners turned into real storage. A custom dining banquette gave the space a place to gather, and built-in moments through the entry and bedrooms grounded the rooms with a sense of permanence. Then the whole unit was furnished, top to bottom, as one considered idea.
What's left is moody and artful, polished enough to entertain in and relaxed enough for a slow family weekend. Most of all, it feels personal, a true escape from the home they live in the rest of the time.
