Dreams Set in Stone

  • Project Type

A 5,600 sq. ft. new construction spec home, designed from the ground up for market.

    Scope

Floor plan input and space planning / elevations / interior architectural detailing / custom built-ins / kitchen and bath design / tile, cabinetry, and finish selections / lighting and material direction / renderings / go-to-market design support

  • A spec home that sold before it listed.

Most spec homes are built to offend no one. This one was built to be loved. A builder brought Studio MAK a 5,600 square foot new construction home in Downers Grove with a harder brief than it sounds: make it personal enough to spark a real reaction, broad enough to win the right buyer.

That tension shaped every decision. Lean too generic and the home disappears into the market. Lean too specific and it only fits one person. The work was finding the line between them, and holding it across the whole house.

We designed the home from the ground up, the layouts, the elevations, the material direction, the built-ins, the bathrooms and bedrooms, and the full finish story throughout. We selected every major finish and built renderings to carry the vision to market before construction was even done. Warm where spec homes are usually cold, detailed where they are usually safe, the house was given character without being narrowed to a single taste.

It sold before it officially hit the market, over asking. Which says the quiet part out loud: good design sells.
